Know what Contact group actually is?
In-office 365, there are two different types of groups available based on the subscription.
- 0365 Groups: In this group, you will find a shared mailbox, file store, planner and notebook. This type of group is recommended for small groups, teams, and theaters for rehearsals.
- Contact Group: If you have added a number of email addresses to form a group, then it is called a contact group. Instead of sending the emails individually, you can send the same message to more than 10 persons in one go with contact group.
Why hide the names in the contact group?
You may contact your friend or colleague via email as a courtesy to him. However, sometimes they don’t like their personal information to be shared with any other. It includes an email address as well. There is number of data protection and compliance issues that may force you to mask the email addresses. If there’s any kind of financial or business information stored in the email, then you will be bound to keep that email’s identity private.
Email addresses help in connecting the user to the real person through individual information. So, if you are sharing any information over the email, then it must be kept in mind that the personal information of the addressee ought not to be shared.

The best way to hide the names is by using the BCC option. This is a simple process and one can easily apply.
BCC is an acronym for blind carbon copy. You might have used a carbon copy or CC option which is used to add the secondary email address. The only difference in the BCC and the CC is that former one displays the sender’s and recipient’s address.
People whose email addresses are entered in the BCC field won’t be able to see the email address entered in the ‘CC’ field. You can’t click on the ‘Reply all’ option.
The BCC field is not available directly on the email screen, you have to add it manually by click on ‘BCC’ given under ‘Outlook’.
You will get the ‘BCC field’ on the ‘Compose email’ screen right after this. You need to perform this step only once. The BCC option will display automatically in future emails.
Start entering the addresses in the ‘BCC’ field and your address in the ‘To’ field.
Every addressee will receive the mail now but will not get the email address details of the other users to whom the same message is forwarded.
